Introduction:

In 1985, Dr. Wen-Pin Lai established Chien Yeh & Associates. Instead of pursuing an increase of business volume, he focuses on provision and improvement of professional knowledge. Such belief keeps Chien Yeh & Associates standing in an outstanding position and builds a professional image in the IPRs field.

When Taiwanese businessmen began to enter the mainland market in the 1990s, trademark disputes constantly occur. In order to enable Taiwanese businessmen to fully protect their own rights and interests, Dr. Lai was invited, in August 1993, by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) to publish a total of 35 articles serially in the “Trade Newsletter Magazine”, introducing the China’s IPRs system. In the same year, he was invited by the China Trademark Office to give a special speech in front of more than 400 official administrators. Moreover, Dr. Lai is the pioneer in the field of IPRs exchange between China and Taiwan. He is one of the first Taiwanese arbitrators in China, and has been working as an arbitrator in Beijing Arbitration Commission since 2007.

In 1997, Dr. Lai attended a doctoral Program of the China University of Political Science and Law. He graduated and obtained a doctoral degree with a thesis entitled “The Conflicts between Trade Names and Trademarks on the Basis of the China’s Legal System” in 2000. Dr. Lai is the first Taiwanese who studies the legal system of China’s IPRs. Moreover, his doctoral thesis in relation to the study of legal system of China’s IPRs was the first one being published in China. Dr. Lai has served as a chair professor or a visiting professor of IPRs field at the China’s and the Taiwan’s universities, and engaged in the cross-strait IPRs exchanges. He plays a significant role guiding the cross-strait official exchange platforms named “cross-strait trademark forum” and “cross-strait copyright forum”, especially helping Taiwanese businessmen communicate and negotiate the IPRs disputes occurred in China.

UP to now, Dr. Lai has published more than 100 articles and has been invited to attend more than 100 seminars or lectures. In 2010, he was awarded the “Cross-Strait Exchange Contribution Award” by the former Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), Mr. Pin-Kung Chiang and also awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award by the China University of Political Science and Law in 2016.
